Policies and Procedures Committee recommends the adoption of the updated By-Laws for First Baptist Church.

 

Members:

Warren Skaug, Karen Ladd, Dave Ferguson, Paula Miles, Mekelle Stanley, Matt Horton, Tom Rainwater, Mark Mayfield

 

They began working on these updates in the summer of 2018.  They met monthly as well as sought advice from others as progress was made.  This is an attempt to put into writing our practices and streamline our decision-making processes. 

 

Highlights:

Constitution remains the same – no changes

 

Moving our business meetings to quarterly with a renewed focus on the ministries of the church, business of the church, and church-wide fellowship.  Our goal is to get greater participation within our church.  Stewardship will continue to meet monthly to review finances. 

 

Removed program descriptions from By-Laws which allows flexibility for ministry programming

            Example: Adventure Club is no longer a viable ministry

 

Deacon body and descriptions remains the same – no changes

 

Three standing committees: Stewardship, Administrative Ministry Team, and Nominating.  We will have ad hoc committees to be used as needed for specific purposes: Pastor Search, Building/Construction, Policies, etc. Ministry Teams will be established by Pastoral Staff as needed: Youth, Worship, Missions

 

Administrative Ministry Team will have more members and scheduled meetings.

 

The flexibility to update facilities use, operating procedures, personnel policies, and job descriptions will allow for timely adjustments to be made.

Available to the church: October 20

Forum for Q&A: November 13

Vote on adoption: November 24
